A to Z favorite things... G

The Giving Tree.... by Shel Silverstein. I had almost forgotten about this book until I recently re-read it to my grandson.... wow! I love this book. If you haven't read it, you should definitely check it out (no-one has to know that you're not buying for a child!) It's a book about friendship, love and devotion and it's just so bitter-sweet....

According to GudonyaToo's shop announcement.... they "strive to make the BEST, handmade, Small Batch Soaps and Bath and Beauty Products on the Market today... We only use top shelf oils, fragrances and processes to make you look, feel and smell GREAT!!!!
Well they're right! I'm just addicted to the "whipped clean" OOH LA LA! If you like loads of fabulous smelling bubbles running down your body... if you love strong clean scents... if you like being frugal... you'll love these. I got one for everyone on my Christmas list this past year and got a bunch more people addicted to this stuff too!! Try it!!

Guacamole !!

I've found many different recipes (all of which I love) but here's the way I usually make it....

4 ripe avocados
  • the juice of 1 lime
  • 1/2 red onion - chopped
  • 1 garlic clove - minced
  • 1 tomato - diced
  • 2 tablespoons fresh cilantro - finely chopped
  • a couple shakes of cumin
  • a couple shakes of chili powder
  • salt and pepper (to taste)
  • Pit and halve avocados and scoop out flesh into a bowl. Mash avocados with a fork, leaving it still a bit chunky. Add remaining ingredients, gently mix. Want more guacomole recipes??? check them out here.

GOOP~ also known as garlic & olive oil on a plate.... I hardly ever keep much food in the house these days... so when I get hungry I usually just improvise with whatever I have on hand.

A little olive oil, some olives and capers, some garlic and good crusty bread makes a fabulous meal or late night snack!!

I may have overdone it with the olives and capers on this batch, but heck - it was dinner!
soooo easy to make~ just cut the top off a head of garlic or two, place cut side down in a pan of olive oil and roast (covered in foil) in the oven for about an hour (I usually do this at 300 F)
Before roasting, I add some salt & pepper, some capers and maybe a sprig of thyme or rosemary if I have it.
After it comes out of the oven I add some chopped up green and/or black olives after it cools a little, turn the garlic right side up and start dipping!
Scoop out the garlic cloves and spread it on your bread with the capers etc... hmmmm
    yummy!
