Today is "Moon Day"

Moon Day commemorates the day man first walked on the moon in 1969.

Even though I was just a little kid, I remember that day!

I don't remember the actual moon walk but I do remember thinking it must have been something really important because my dad let us stay up late to watch it on t.v.

I remember his reaction more than I remember anything else. He seemed mesmerized and somehow very proud. And very proud to be sharing this with his young daughters... we were the last generation to have been born prior to humans being space- exploring creatures.

National Pecan Day!

Now I usually don't like sweets... and rarely eat them... but in honor of this nutty day, I thought I'd make an exception.

Today is... NO HOUSEWORK DAY!

The trouble with living alone is that it's always your turn to do the dishes! But today, I'm letting any dishes I may have wait until tomorrow!

Today, April 7th , is No Housework Day!!!! YAY!!!

I have one of these days at least 2-3 times each week - but today it "guilt-free" because it's official!

No Housework Day is your chance to do anything, except housework.

Better still, if you have that luxury.... have someone else do the chores for a day.

Housework is a daily, seemingly endless and repetitive groups of tasks. It often goes unrecognized and worst of all..... taken for granted.

Leap DAY?

I've always thought it was Leap YEAR.... hmmmm.. but according to HolidayInsights.com

They get into some fancy calculations that I'll spare you here... but if your birthday is February 29th (which 1 in 1461 are) Happy Birthday! You'll actually get to celebrate your birthday on your birthdate! And it's a Friday to boot!! Go have some BIG FUN!!!

Rabbit, Rabbit DAY!

Do you remember this from your childhood? My daughter reminded me today... it seems now that she has her own child, little bits of her childhood are coming back to haunt her.

I never knew why we did this, we just did. The first day of every month... before you utter any other words... you need to say "rabbit, rabbit" to ensure you have good luck that month. We, also, for some reason had to hop on one foot while saying it...
After researching it a bit I've found that it seems that you are supposed to say "rabbit, rabbit, rabbit" (or even "rabbit, rabbit, white rabbit) Perhaps that's where I've gone wrong... do you think the extra "rabbit" makes a difference?

According to Wikipedia, the origins go back as far as 1420 ! Possibly even the 1200's! I'm not going to mess with that history.

Tomorrow morning I will definitely say "rabbit, rabbit, white rabbit" and hop on one foot... we'll see if this makes a difference.

Oh... one more thing... if you forget to do this first thing in the morning...all is not lost! You can walk backwards down a flight of stairs or say "tibbar, tibbar" as the very last thing you say before you fall asleep that night. Wishing you much good luck this coming month! I know I could use it!

Penguin Awareness Day!

Are you aware of penguins? Did you know that Sunday, January 20th is Penquin Awareness Day? On this day spend a little time learning about them.... a pictorial book or internet site is fun. You can also watch a documentary of these cute and popular, grounded birds. There have been a bunch of great movies about them in the past year or so....
This day would also a time to wear black and white---penguin colors. However, wearing a tuxedo in their honor is optional.

It is also popular today to tell a penguin joke or two. Here's a couple to get you started....

A man drives to a gas station and has his tank filled up. While doing this the clerk spots two penguins sitting on the back seat of the car. He asks the driver, "What's up with the penguins in the back seat?"
The man in the car says, "I found them. I asked myself what to do with them but, I haven't a clue."

The clerk ponders a bit then says, "You should take them to the zoo."

"Yeah, that's a good idea," says the man in the car and drives away.

The next day the man with the car is back at the same gas station. The clerk sees the penguins are still in the back seat of the car.

"Hey, they're still here! I thought you were going to take them to the zoo!"

"Oh, I did," says the driver, "and we had a great time. Today I'm taking them to the beach."

The Law of Abundance

Well tonight is a new moon and I just heard from a fellow Etsian, artgirlx, (who has FABULOUS work by-the-way).... about the Law of Abundance. I've looked it up and the way I understand it is that it's a 2000 year old ancient Chinese tradition to guarantee prosperity - adapted to modern methodology.

Here's what you do.....

• We are to take a blank check.
• Date it with the current date.
• Make the check out to you - using your full legal name.
• Leave the amount box & the amount line blank.
• On the memo line write, "paid in full."
• Sign the check, "Law of Abundance."

Then, keep the check in your purse or wallet at all times. This check will then bring you prosperity.

What the heck?? Can't hurt right? I just made out my check... I'll keep you posted on what happens... :)

Ask A Stupid Question Day

Well, it's official.... September 28th is Ask a Stupid Question Day. It's your opportunity to speak up, and to ask all those questions you were afraid to ask. All those questions that you thought were too stupid or dumb to ask, have been piling up all year long. Today is the day to unload them. C'mon give it a try. Nobody will laugh......we hope. This goes perfectly with my little column to the right --> "Things that make you go hmmmm" So I guess Ask a Stupid Question Day is everyday for me!!!

The roots of this special day goes back to the 1980's. At the time, there was a movement by teachers to try to get kids to ask more questions in the classroom. Kids sometimes hold back, fearing their question is stupid, and asking it will result in ridicule.Teachers created this day on September 28, If it fell on a weekend, they would celebrate it on the last day of the month.

National Be Late for Something Day!

Well tomorrow (September 5th) is Be Late for Something Day! I tend to celebrate this holiday everyday! Be Late For Something Day is a great day to be a procrastinator. If you are among the millions of us who never seem to be able to stay on schedule, then you will certainly enjoy today.
Being late for something is a very common occurrence, and can be caused by a whole host of reasons. Some are intentional, some are not. Fall behind schedule early in the day, and you will be late for everything that follows. Doctors and lawyers are notoriously late for something....their appointment with you! It's proper to be "fashionably late" for parties. And if you are late for a party (perfect seque here..) bring the hostess a wonderful set of wine glass charms! Today is National TELL A JOKE day

Let's get serious now... I'm not kidding. Today is National Tell a Joke Day. I hope your day is filled with chuckles and laughs.
No doubt about it. Today, will be a fun-filled day, with lots of laughter. To fully participate and enjoy this day, just tell some jokes. You can do it in person, or pass along a few humorous emails. That's easy enough to do. The more jokes you tell, the more fun this day will be. We also encourage you to listen to many jokes today. Everybody is getting into the act, and in order to "tell a joke", someone has to be present to "listen to a joke".

One summer evening during a violent thunderstorm a mother was tucking her son into bed. Tuesday is MUTT'S Day!!

July 31st - It's Mutt's Day! Mutts deserve their day in the spotlight, as much as a pure breed. If you own a mutt, or you are a mutt (reading this), then you know this day is for you.

This is a picture of my favorite mutt - Smedley - part (get this) Rottweiller, part Bassett Hound!! He's the BEST!

By definition a mutt, sometimes called a "Halfbreed", is a dog that is of mixed breed. They come from two to several breeds. Purebred owners, and sometimes the public in general, view them as lesser in many ways. Mutt owners know better. They value the diversity and uniqueness of their mutts. Sure, a mutt doesn't carry the expensive price tag that a purebred with papers has on its head. To the mutt owner, however, the mutt is invaluable. In addition, mutts don't walk around needing to prove anything. You won't see them strutting around any dog shows trying to prove they are the best.
To all mutts and and mutt owners, we hope you thoroughly enjoy Mutt's Day. Spend the day relaxing and doing all the things you and your dog like to do. Do so with both of your chins held high. For your mutt is worth a million bucks!
